Cells growing in a 3D environment behave more similarly to those growing in the organism of origin than those grown in 2D environments (traditional system). Therefore, better quality information is obtained by testing cells in 3D than by using the traditional 2D system. Compared to 2D, cells cultured in 3D environments differ in drug metabolism, cell differentiation, expression (genes, proteins), in the overall cell function, morphology, proliferation, response to stimuli and viability.

Metis biomaterials is a pioneer company in the development, manufacture and marketing of new materials for 3D cell culture.

Our product range comprises 3D materials (scaffolds), which are compatible with conventional cell culture plates, i.e., porous materials with different internal morphologies. Thus, cells growing inside these materials mimic the in vivo environment better and, therefore, behave more naturally.

In addition, metis biomaterials manufactures microspheres and 2D films. Due to our technological capacity –generation of porous structures- we offer our clients a design and development service for new materials.
